How to Prepare for Your First Psychic Reading in Chicago

If you've been thinking about booking a psychic reading but keep putting it off because you're not sure what to expect, you're in good company. Most of my clients tell me they waited months — sometimes years — before finally scheduling a session. The most common reason? They didn't know how to prepare.
The truth is, there's no special ritual or homework required. But there are a few things that can make your experience more meaningful, grounded, and useful. Whether you're booking a psychic mediumship session, a tarot reading, or energy healing, here's what I tell every first-time client.
You Don't Need to "Believe" to Benefit
One of the biggest misconceptions about psychic readings is that you need to walk in fully convinced. You don't. Healthy skepticism is welcome. What matters more than belief is openness — being willing to receive information without immediately dismissing it.
Some of my most powerful sessions have been with people who came in unsure. They didn't need to believe in me. They just needed to be honest about what they were going through.
Set an Intention, Not an Expectation
Before your reading, spend a few minutes thinking about what's bringing you here. You don't need to prepare a list of questions (though you can). It's more about knowing your "why."
Are you looking for clarity on a decision? Do you want to connect with someone who has passed? Are you feeling stuck and can't figure out why? Even a simple intention like "I want to understand what's happening in my life right now" gives the reading focus.
What you want to avoid is a rigid expectation — like needing to hear a specific name or answer. Readings work best when there's room for what comes through, even if it's not exactly what you expected.
What Actually Happens During a Session
If you're picturing a dark room with a crystal ball, you can relax. My sessions are virtual — we meet over Google Meets from wherever you're comfortable. For psychic mediumship, I'll share impressions, messages, and information as it comes through. For tarot, we'll pull cards and explore what they reveal about your situation.
I'll ask you to confirm or clarify things as we go, but you don't need to feed me information. A simple "yes, that resonates" or "I'm not sure about that" is enough. The reading is a conversation, not a performance.

Practical Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Reading
Give yourself transition time. Don't schedule your reading between two back-to-back meetings. You'll want a few minutes before to settle in, and time afterward to sit with what came up.
Find a quiet, private space. Since sessions are virtual, you'll want somewhere you can speak freely without worrying about being overheard. This helps you relax and be honest.
Bring a notebook or open a notes app. You won't remember everything. Jot down key phrases, images, or messages during or immediately after. Things that don't make sense now often click later.
Eat and hydrate beforehand. It sounds simple, but energy work and psychic readings can be surprisingly draining if you come in already running on empty.
Turn off notifications. Give yourself this time fully. The emails can wait.
What I Won't Do in a Reading
I believe in being upfront about boundaries. I don't make predictions about death or dying. I don't diagnose medical conditions. And I won't tell you what to do — that's not my role. My job is to share what I receive and help you make sense of it in the context of your own life. You always have free will.
You're Ready When You Feel the Pull
There's no perfect time to book your first reading. If you've been curious, if something keeps nudging you toward it, that's usually enough. You don't need to be in crisis. You don't need to have your life figured out first. Sometimes the reading is what helps you figure it out.
I work with clients throughout Chicago, the North Shore, and online worldwide. If you've been thinking about it, I'd love to hear from you.
