What a Mediumship Session Is Like (Start to Finish)

Natalie psychic medium in Glenview during reading session

The first time someone books a mediumship session, there's usually a mix of hope and nervousness. Hope that they'll hear from someone they've lost. Nervousness about what it will feel like, whether it will work, or if they'll be able to handle whatever comes through.

I get it. Mediumship can sound intimidating if you've never experienced it before. But here's the truth: most sessions are quiet, grounded, and deeply human. There's no theatrics, no dramatic reveals. Just you, me, and the presence of someone who wants to be known.

Let me walk you through what actually happens when you book a mediumship session with me in Glenview or online.

Before the Session: What You Need to Know

When you book, I'll ask for your first name and confirm the session time. That's it. I don't need details about who you're hoping to hear from, how they passed, or what you want to know. In fact, I prefer you don't tell me. It keeps the session clean.

Some people ask if they should prepare. Honestly, the best preparation is just showing up open. You don't need to meditate, clear your energy, or do anything special. Just come as you are.

If you're feeling anxious, that's normal. Spirit doesn't require you to be calm or confident. They show up regardless.

One thing I do recommend: have a pen and paper nearby. You might want to jot down names, dates, or details that come through. Memory gets fuzzy when emotions are high.

During the Session: How It Actually Works

We start with a brief check in. I'll explain how I work and answer any quick questions you have. Then we begin.

I don't go into a trance or channel in the dramatic sense. I simply quiet my own thoughts and open my awareness to whoever is present. Sometimes a person in spirit steps forward immediately. Sometimes it takes a moment.

When I sense someone, I start describing what I'm getting: their personality, how they passed, physical characteristics, mannerisms, memories they're showing me. I'm looking for validation from you. A "yes, that's them" or "no, that doesn't fit."

This is collaborative. I'm not a radio that just broadcasts. I'm more like a translator. Spirit gives me pieces, and I relay them to you. You confirm or clarify. Together, we build the connection.

What comes through varies. Sometimes it's specific: names, dates, inside jokes, shared memories. Sometimes it's more feeling based: their love for you, their pride in how you've grown, their gratitude for something you did.

I can't guarantee what will come through or in what order. Spirit has their own agenda. But in my experience, what comes through is almost always what you need to hear, even if it's not what you expected.

What It Feels Like for You

People often ask what they'll feel during the session. The answer is: it depends.

Some people cry. Some laugh. Some sit quietly and just absorb. There's no right way to experience it.

You might feel a presence in the room, a warmth, a sense of peace. Or you might not feel anything physical and still know, emotionally, that the person you love is there.

Mediumship isn't about seeing full apparitions or hearing voices out loud. It's subtler than that. It's the recognition that the information I'm sharing could only come from them.

After the Session: What Happens Next

Sessions usually last 30 to 60 minutes. When we finish, I'll give you a moment to collect yourself. Some people feel lighter. Some feel emotional. Both are normal.

I recommend taking it easy for the rest of the day. Drink water. Go for a walk. Journal if you feel called to. Mediumship stirs things up, even when it brings peace.

You might notice signs from your loved one in the days following the session: a song on the radio, a dream, a sudden memory. Spirit often continues the conversation after we hang up.

If questions come up later, you're welcome to reach out. Sometimes things make more sense a few days out when the emotion settles.

Common Questions and Concerns

"What if no one comes through?"

In all my years doing this work, I've never had a session where no one showed up. Spirit wants to connect. They show up.

"Will it be scary?"

No. Mediumship isn't like the movies. There's no dark energy, no dramatic presences. The people who come through loved you in life. They still do. There's nothing to fear.

"What if I can't stop crying?"

Then you cry. Grief is part of this. I'll sit with you through it. There's no rush.

"What if I don't believe what you're saying?"

That's okay. I'm not here to convince you. I relay what I'm receiving. You take what resonates and leave the rest.

Why People Book Mediumship Sessions

Most people come to mediumship for one of three reasons: they want confirmation that their loved one still exists, they need closure on something left unsaid, or they're looking for guidance from someone they trusted in life.

All of these are valid. Grief doesn't have a timeline, and the need to feel connected to someone we've lost is deeply human.

If you're in Glenview, Chicago, or the North Shore and you've been thinking about booking a session, now might be the time. I'm offering a Valentine's special for first time clients: a 15 minute reading for $20. It's a gentle way to experience mediumship without committing to a full session.
